‘Future Man,’ From Seth Rogen and Starring Josh Hutcherson, Ordered to Series at Hulu

Hulu is headed to the future with Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and Josh Hutcherson.

The streaming service has handed out a series order to Future Man, a 13-episode half-hour comedy from Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg with a cast boasting Josh Hutcherson and Eliza Coupe.

Rogen and Goldberg (Sausage Party, This Is the End, Preacher, Superbad), Matt Tolmach (Spider-Man, Jumanji, Rock That Body) and James Weaver (This Is the End, Neighbors, Preacher) exec produce the comedy that follows a janitor by day/gamer by night who is recruited by mysterious visitors to travel through time in order to prevent the extinction of humanity.

The series was written by executive producers Ariel Shaffir and Kyle Hunter (Sausage Party, The Night Before) and Howard Overman, with the teleplay by Shaffir and Hunter. Future Man marks the first half-hour television comedy from Rogen and Goldberg, who directed the pilot from Sony Pictures Television.

Hutcherson (The Hunger Games, The Kids Are Alright) stars as Josh Futterman, an uninspired and dejected gamer who quickly becomes earth’s unlikely hero. Hutcherson also serves as a producer on the series and stars opposite Eliza Coupe (Happy Endings), Derek Wilson (Rogen and Goldberg’s AMC drama Preacher), Ed Begley Jr. (St. Elsewhere) and Glenne Headly (Don Jon).

For Hulu, Future Man joins a growing roster of scripted comedies including Golden Globe nominee Casual, The Mindy Project and Difficult People — all of which are produced by outside studios.

Josh stars in DJ Snake’s new video

Josh Hutcherson stars as a superhero in DJ Snake’s new video

DJ Snake borrowed a little movie magic for his new “Middle” music video, released Wednesday. The clip stars The Hunger Games‘ Josh Hutcherson as a lonely superhero who finds love with a fellow crime fighter played by Kiersey Clemons (Dope).

After locking eyes at a diner, the pair embark on a colorful adventure across the city, soaring above the streets as Snake’s bouncy electro hit plays on.

DJ Snake first rose to fame on the Lil Jon-assisted banger, “Turn Down for What,” most recently teaming up with Major Lazer for their danceable ear-worm “Lean On.” The French producer is at work on his debut album.

Josh to Star in Hulu Comedy “Future Man”

Josh Hutcherson to Star in Hulu Comedy ‘Future Man’ From Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg

Josh Hutcherson is headed for the small screen.

The Hunger Games star has been tapped to topline Hulu comedy pilot Future Man, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. Additionally, Hutcherson’s production company, Turkeyfoot, has also boarded the comedy and will produce.

Future Man, from Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, chronicles a janitor by day, world-ranked gamer by night who is tasked with preventing the extinction of humans after mysterious visitors from the future declare him to be the key to defeating the imminent super-race invasion.

Hutcherson will star as the lead, Josh Futturman. The character still lives at home with his parents, and has a dead-end job as a janitor at a sexual disease research center called Devlin. Because of a sickly adolescence, Josh is socially inept, has low self-esteem and can’t approach women. The only thing he excels at is Cybergeddon, a video game set in a dystopian future where his character, Future Man, has the top ranking in the world. When Josh beats the final level, he’s visited by characters from the game who claim it is a training manual and he’s been selected to travel back in time and help them save the world. Is he ready? Absolutely not.

From Sony Pictures Television, Rogen’s Point Grey Pictures and Matt Tolmach Productions. Kyle Hunter and Ariel Schaffir (Rogen’s Sausage Party) will pen the script and exec produce with Rogen, Goldberg, James Weaver and Matt Tolmach. Rogen and Goldberg will also direct the pilot.

Hutcherson’s credits include the Hunger Games franchise, The Kids Are All Right, Journey to the Center of the Earth and its sequel as well as Bridge to Terabithia. He’s repped by CAA, manager Rick Beddingfield and attorney Adam Kaller. He most recently completed The Disaster Artist and The Long Home.

Josh joins cast of James Franco’s ‘The Long Home’

Josh Hutcherson will follow the blockbuster “Hunger Games” franchise with a much smaller film, securing the lead in the James Franco-directed drama “The Long Home.”

Based on the novel by William Gay, “The Long Home” is set in the 1940s in rural Tennessee, where a young man (Hutcherson) goes to work building a honkytonk for a charismatic and diabolical bootlegger, unaware that the man had murdered his father 10 years prior. He runs into further trouble when he falls for the young woman the bootlegger is grooming to be a prostitute.

Franco is also expected to star, and will produce alongside Rabbit Bandini’s Vince Jolivette and Jay Davis. Robert Halmi Jr. and Jim Reeve are exec producing.

Franco previously cast Hutcherson in another directorial effort, “In Dubious Battle,” based on the John Steinbeck novel. A release date for that film has yet to be announced.

Hutcherson can be seen next in “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 2,” which bows in November. He is repped by CAA, The Beddingfield Company and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren, Richman, Rush & Kaller.
